How it works

Enter the loan amount, an interest rate and the loan term. The calculator works out your repayment on the schedule you choose, and adds up the total interest and the total amount repaid over the full term.

The price of a property is one thing; what it costs to repay is another. This tool turns a loan amount, rate and term into a clear repayment figure, and shows the interest you would pay over the life of the loan. Switch between weekly, fortnightly and monthly to see how the schedule changes what you pay on finance for an Equitifund property.

Understanding your results

You will see your repayment on the schedule you picked, the total interest over the life of the loan and the total amount repaid. Paying fortnightly rather than monthly can reduce the interest you pay overall, because you make the equivalent of an extra monthly repayment each year. Every figure assumes the rate stays fixed for the full term; in practice, rates and repayments can change.

Frequently asked questions

Does paying fortnightly really save money?
It can. Twenty-six fortnightly payments add up to the equivalent of thirteen monthly ones, so you make roughly one extra month’s repayment a year and cut the interest over the life of the loan.
Principal and interest, or interest only?
Principal and interest pays the loan down over time. Interest only keeps repayments lower for a set period but does not reduce the balance, so it usually costs more overall. Which suits you depends on your circumstances.
Why is my total interest so high over 30 years?
Because interest is charged on the balance for the whole term. A shorter term or extra repayments reduce it, at the cost of a higher regular repayment.
Are these my exact repayments?
No. They are indicative and assume a fixed rate for the full term. Your actual repayments depend on your finance, rate, fees and any rate changes.
